Birth of Set Theory

The Birth of Set Theory

The year 2024 marks the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the birth of set theory: In the article ‘Ueber eine Eigenschaft des Inbegriffes aller reellen algebraischen Zahlen’ in 1874, Georg Cantor proved for the first time that the set of real numbers is uncountable and thus founded the field of set theory. To celebrate this occasion, the DVMLG is coordinating a translation project of Georg Cantor’s original work and some German-language secondary texts into English. At the Colloquium Logicum 2024, Clara List and Benedikt Löwe will talk about the anniversary and the translation project.
